West coached more than 300 basketball victories in his distinguished career.
He guided Weslaco High School to five district championships within nine years, building the Panthers into a perennial Valley power. He served 17 years as principal of Raymondville High School to interrupt his coaching years.
He retired as principal he went back to coach Raymondville to success, rebuilding a program and winning two zone titles in three years.
