High School Student Scholarships
Since 1992, the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame has presented achievement award scholarships to Valley senior student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom, their communities and in athletics.
More than 100 high school seniors have received financial assistance for their higher education expenses by the RGV Sports Hall of Fame. Other financial awards have been presented by the RGV Sports Hall of Fame on behalf of the Forrest Hood/Kenneth White Trust in Mission and by co-founder E.C. Lerma, all of whom have passed away. Past inductee Cesar Perez has also generously helped numerous students from Starr County.
Determining the recipients of scholarships is a difficult process. Dozens of students from around the Rio Grande Valley apply for the limited number of scholarships each year.
Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria:
Athletics participation
Academic class rank and awards
Academics participation in competitive events such as UIL Academics and other organizations
Leadership roles in extracurricular activities
Community service
